The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) exam is a national-level recruitment exam conducted by the SSC. It's primarily for recruiting candidates with a Higher Secondary (10+2) qualification for various clerical and non-technical posts in the central government. These posts include Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), Postal Assistant (PA), Sorting Assistant (SA), and Data Entry Operator (DEO) in different ministries and departments.

📘 SSC CHSL Syllabus 2025
 

The SSC CHSL Tier-I 2025 is the first step toward securing a government job through the Combined Higher Secondary Level (10+2) Examination. It is conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT) and includes four subjects: English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, General Intelligence, and General Awareness.

Tier-II is also a Computer examination and is conducted in two sessions on the same day: Session I and Session II.

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Examination for the recruitment of Lower Division Clerks (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistants (JSA), Postal Assistants (PA), Sorting Assistants (SA), and Data Entry Operators (DEO) in various Ministries, Departments, and Offices of the Government of India.

🧑‍💼 Posts & Salary

  • Lower Division Clerk (LDC)/ Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA):

    • Pay Level 2: ₹19,900–₹63,200

  • Data Entry Operator (DEO):

    • Pay Level 4: ₹25,500–₹81,100

    • Pay Level 5: ₹29,200–₹92,300

  • DEO Grade ‘A’:

    • Pay Level 4: ₹25,500–₹81,100


✅ Eligibility Criteria (as of 2025)

 Nationality: Candidates must be citizens of India, subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, or Tibetan refugees who came to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanent settlement, or persons of Indian origin who have migrated from specified countries to permanently settle in India.

SSC CHSL 2025 Age Limit and Relaxation Criteria

The age limit for SSC CHSL posts is set between 18 to 27 years as of 1st January 2025. Therefore, candidates born between 2nd January 1999 and 1st January 2008 (both dates inclusive) are eligible to apply.

Permissible Age Relaxation (Upper Age Limit) for Various Categories:

Widows/Divorced Women/Women judicially separated and not remarried – General Up to 35 years
Widows/Divorced Women – SC/ST Up to 40 years

Note: Candidates claiming age relaxation must ensure they meet all eligibility conditions and provide supporting documents at the time of verification.


📚 Educational Qualification

✅ For LDC/ JSA, PA/ SA, DEO (Except DEOs in C&AG)

  • Candidates must have passed the 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.

✅ For DEO Grade 'A' in C&AG (Comptroller and Auditor General of India)

  • Candidates must have passed 12th Standard in the Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized Board or equivalent.

  🔁 Number of Attempts

  • There is no restriction on the number of attempts for the SSC CHSL exam.

  • However, candidates must fulfill the age limit and other eligibility criteria each time they apply.


📄 Documents Required

Candidates must keep the following documents ready (as per the official notification):

  • Proof of age (e.g., 10th Certificate)

  • 12th class mark sheet or equivalent qualification proof

  • Valid category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD/ESM), if applicable

  • Identity proof (e.g., Aadhaar card, voter ID)

  • Any other documents supporting claims made in the application


📝 Selection Process

The SSC CHSL 2025 recruitment process includes the following stages:

  1. Tier-I: Computer-Based Examination (CBE)

    • Objective-type paper

    • 4 sections: English, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness

  2. Tier-II: Computer-Based Examination

    • Divided into Sections I, II, III (Objective), and Section IV (Skill/Typing Test)

  3. Skill Test/ Typing Test

    • Qualifying in nature

    • Required for specific posts such as DEO (Data Entry Operator) and LDC/JSA

  4. Document Verification (DV)

    • Conducted for candidates who qualify Tier-II and Skill/Typing Test (if applicable)

    • Final selection is based on performance in Tier-II only (Tier-I is qualifying)
